The Art of
Suzanne Lowry

I am drawn to the symbolic and simplified.  Believing that too much detail limits the imagination, I portray the essence of a subject and strip away the extraneous content.

In my Sculpture on the Rocks series and my Man-a-Kins  photo series, this translates to the use of body language, rather than facial expressions, gender, and musculature to convey my message.  Although it may seem difficult to show attitude and emotion without giving it a face, the viewer is more free to add his or her own personal interpretation without dwelling on details which detract from a focus on the body language.

I love the warmth, sheen, and solidity of soldered copper and incorporate it into my media whenever possible.  This makes my work coordinate beautifully when several pieces are displayed together.

Before pursuing her long-neglected passion for the arts, Suzanne Lowry experienced life as a twenty-year physics instructor at Althoff High School and then McKendree University, as a co-author of archaeological research in nondestructive techniques for the Cahokia Mounds World Heritage Site, as a writer for varied publications, as a stay-at-home mom, and as a lifelong volunteer who has founded several ongoing programs for children's charities.

Although predominantly self-taught, she was blessed with the encouragement, advice, and guidance of such master mentors as Ed Karasek, June Kelly, Billy O'Donnell, and David and Shawn Cornell.  Her work has won numerous awards and has been selected for juried shows throughout the region, including the Missouri Festival for the Arts (MOsaics), Spring ArtWalk in historic St. Charles, the GSLAA Festivals of Art at Queeny Park, Highland Art in the Park, and gallery exhibits of the prestigious Foundry Art Centre and the St. Louis Artists' Guild, among others.  She was also featured in "Through Our Eyes," a three-woman show at the Absolutely Starving Art Gallery, at Jacque's in Collinsville, and at the Art on the Square Gallery in Belleville, IL.  Her art is held in a number of collections, both private and corporate.

She is a signature member of the St. Louis Artists' Guild, treasurer of the Gateway East Artists' Guild, founder of the Artists' Registry for Charitable Events, a member of the Foundry Art Centre, and a resident artist at Framations Art Gallery.

Work may be purchased online or in person through Framations Art Gallery, 218 North Main Street, Historic St. Charles, MO,  and at www.Framations.com.
